Measure Before Drilling
Use the dimensions required by the specific manufacturer rather than relying on one generic measuring rule.
Window openings can be out of square, trim can project differently from one side to the other, and handles or cranks can interfere with the shade.
Brackets and Mounting Surface
Brackets may fasten to wood trim, wall framing, drywall with suitable anchors, masonry, or another surface depending on the product.
The mounting method should match both the treatment weight and the material receiving the fastener. Damaged trim or an unsuitable surface may require a separate repair before installation.
Headrails, Shades, and Final Adjustment
Once brackets are secure, the headrail or shade cassette should seat fully into the clips.
Cordless shades, roller shades, blinds, and cellular products can then be checked through their ordinary travel to confirm they clear the sill and hardware.
